Maurice de Mauriac holds an interesting place in the watch world. It is not really a new brand, nor is it an old brand. It is, however, a brand that we can certainly endorse and one we see big things coming from in the very near future. Just a few weeks ago, prior to Basel World 2009, we held a 30 minute phone call with Maurice de Mauriac founder and designer Daniel Dreifuss. We have to admit, we were impressed.
We often speak to people behind the brands but rarely does such a passion come across, especially over the telephone. We began to explore the brand and its merits a little bit more and we really like what we see.
Maurice de Mauriac watches are designed and produced in Zurich, Switzerland, which you may think is a common area for watch manufacturers, but in actuality it is not. In fact, Maurice de Mauriac is the first watch producer to come out of and be branded with "Zurich"...interesting, no?

What can you do when you have pain
What can you do when you have pain, especially on a daily basis, and don't want to risk the possible side effects of traditional anti-inflammatories? There is something that works quite well, and has been used for centuries.
White willow bark has been used throughout the ages in both China and Europe. Back around 400 B.C., Hippocrates recommended chewing on the bark to his patients in order to reduce fever and inflammation. When selecting a supplement or herb to try, it's always good to have that kind of history behind it, and that's why it's the health tip of the day.
The main ingredient in white willow is salicin, the same ingredient that aspirin was derived from. But being in a natural state, there is a very low chance of side effects with willow bark compared to a chemical derivative. Long-term use of NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.) can lead to complications such as gastrointestinal discomfort, stomach bleeding, ulcers etc. Even though with white willow a small potential exists for similar side effects as regular aspirin, it is very low, and will tend to be mild. I've experienced some stomach bleeding from NSAIDs (Aleve), but have NEVER had a problem with white willow-I often take it on an empty stomach before breakfast.
Willow bark is an effective herbal pain relief for headaches, backaches, and osteoarthritis. Although there aren't a lot of scientific studies related to the following, some herbalists will recommend white willow for these kinds of pain: menstrual cramps, fever, flu, tendonitis, and bursitis. It is slower than aspirin to take effect, but once it does, the relief lasts longer. Even though researchers feel that salicin is the ingredient that is responsible for the relief, studies have discovered other elements of the bark that have antioxidant, fever-reducing, antiseptic, and immune-boosting properties.
With all of the previously mentioned benefits, no list containing any health tip of the day would be complete without white willow bark. If you have low to moderate daily pain you should REALLY consider giving it a try. It has done wonders for me, safely and without any negative effects. Always check with your health care provider before taking anything new (those who are sensitive to salicylates, like aspirin, should not use willow bark).

Blink 182 is probably most famous for their drummer Travis Barker, who is recognized as one of the best drummers in the world, and who was up until recently involved in a high profile relationship with his ex wife.
Finally, a famous rock group from the recent era is Nirvana. Since the death of lead singer and main artistic influence Kurt Cobain, the band split up into numerous projects amongst their members which include Christ Novocelic who plays in the band the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dave Grohl who is the lead singer and main influence behind the band the Foo Fighters. Something that few people know is that much modern rock music is influenced by classical music and older instruments.

The trendy Hoxton Hotel (in the vibrant Shoreditch area of east London) runs £1 flash sales every few months.
There are sometimes around 1000 rooms given away at the special price (though many are £29 rather than £1 - which is still a very good deal).
The Hoxton gets good guest reviews and is at the moment in the top 20 London hotels on TripAdvisor. So it is certainly worth chancing your arm in the hotel's flash sales!
Guests at the Hoxton seem to enjoy the hotel's friendly service and inspiring public spaces which often display the work of local artists (the Shoreditch area has quite a few artists' studios nearby).
Even outside the sales the room rates are also fairly reasonable for London hotels - and often available for less than £100. The Hoxton provides free WiFi for guests which is another important benefit.
All this makes the promo rooms a real bargain. But you must be very alert on the trigger because the cheapest rooms often disappear within a few short minutes.
It is definitely a matter of luck as to whether you bag yourself one of these bargain rooms. So should you then consider booking the Hoxton even outside the promotion?
The guest comments on TripAdvisor suggest it's a good bet even at its "normal" price.
The hotel - which opened in 2006 - calls itself "The Urban Lodge". It has comfy lounge seats and modern furnishings around its lobby area, and a modern, warehouse-style feel in keeping with the architecture in the locality.
The location is OK but is certainly not central London. It's handy though for public transport connections into the West End.
Rooms are contemporary with flatscreens and nice little amenities e.g. a "Pret a Manger Lite" breakfast, fresh milk, down duvets and other little touches. It's quite a quirky hotel with a good dollop of "character"!
The only downside is that rooms at the Hoxton can occasionally be a bit small, despite their clever design. An insider tip (one of many you can pick up from the London Hotels Insight blog) is to ask for one of the rooms on the upper floors - reputed to be a bit larger than average. Or you might even cheekily ask the staff to suggest one of the best rooms for you!
